Law Enforcement Knowledge

What does 10-4 mean? Explain its meaning and when you would properly use it during patrol. What does 10-20 mean? What is the importantance of this in law enforcement? What does 10-8 mean? Describe a traffic stop from initiation to conclusion. What does 10-50 mean? What are your immediate priorities when responding? What does a Code 3 response indicate? When is it appropriate and when is it not? Reasonable Suspicion vs Probable Cause Explain the difference and give an example of each. Use of Force Explain the proper use-of-force progression. Verbally Uncooperative Suspect If a suspect is verbally uncooperative but not physically resisting, what level of force is appropriate and why? Officer Misconduct What should you do if you witness another officer violating server or department rules?

Hypothetical Scenarios

Felony Scenario 1 You are dispatched to a silent alarm at a convenience store at 2:30 AM. Upon arrival, you observe a masked individual exiting the store carrying a handgun. Describe your actions, commands given, use of cover, and resolution. Felony Scenario 2 You initiate a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle. The driver exits and flees on foot through a residential area. Explain pursuit, communication, and apprehension. Non-Felony Scenario 1 You respond to a noise complaint involving a loud party. The homeowner is argumentative but non-violent. How do you de-escalate? Non-Felony Scenario 2 You stop a driver for speeding. They are nervous and interrupt you repeatedly. No warrants exist. How do you proceed? Vehicle Accident Scenario 1 You arrive at a two-vehicle collision with injuries and traffic congestion. Explain your priorities. Vehicle Accident Scenario 2 You respond to a hit-and-run with no witnesses. How do you investigate and document? Internal Affairs Scenario 1 You witness another officer using excessive force.
